If you’re living in a PG or rental home in Delhi, these new rules can help protect your money and rights. Check these points:
No More Sudden Eviction
PG owner or landlord can’t force you to leave without proper notice.
– They must give you a written notice (min 30 days) before asking you to vacate.
Rent Must Be Written in Agreement
– No verbal promises.
– A written rent agreement is compulsory, signed by both owner and tenant.
Security Deposit Limit
– Now landlords can’t ask for huge deposits.
– Maximum 2 months’ rent as security deposit.
Rent Hike Rules
– Rent cannot be increased suddenly.
– Owner must give 3 months’ notice for any increase.
Police Verification is Mandatory
– Every tenant must be verified by local police.
– This rule is for both safety and legal purpose.
Disputes Go to Rent Authority
– If there’s any problem between owner and tenant, no need to go to police or court directly.
– There will be a Rent Authority where both sides can raise complaints.
PGs Must Register with Govt.
– Now PG owners also need to register their property with local bodies like MCD or DDA.
– This helps avoid fraud and confirms safety standards.
These rules make renting or living in a PG safer and fair for everyone. Before booking, always ask for a written agreement and confirm if the PG follows these new rules.
